Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
