Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
